The Mill House

In Dunfanaghy, County Donegal

Corcreggan Mill is set in a natural hollow alongside the N.56, beside the shore of New Lake. It overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Tory Island.

The property is set in what was once an important pre-Celtic site, said to be the energy centre for the whole northwest of Ireland. It has 175, recorded, archaeological sites within an 8km radius. There are also 7 golden sandy beaches, a forest park with nature trails, the 200 metre Horn Head sea-cliffs, and historic Doe Castle, all within the same radius, (not to mention the many traditional music pubs and specialist restaurants).

Corcreggan is renowned for its tranquillity, its warm hospitality, its comfortable handmade wooden beds, our recycling policy, organic garden, and meditation sanctuaries, the sound of the Mill stream by day and the crashing of waves on Tramore beach by night. We have no TVs or Radios for entertainment. We don't need them.
The Mill House was totally rebuilt in 1999, using the same stone from its 3-walled ruin. It was re-opened in July 2000 after extensive and sympathetic restoration, to provide luxurious accommodation in what most people believe is the original building.

Its popularity as tourist accommodation has increased significantly over the last two years making booking imperative now. Recently it has become known as the ideal private retreat, and a venue for a wide variety of workshop interests, and for those who prefer the quieter off-season atmosphere in this ordinarily busy tourist destination. From October to April the Lake is teeming with visiting duck, geese and swans, multiplying our local population twenty-fold, the air is crisp and cool, and, due to the lack of air pollution, the light is beyond compare.

There are 8 ensuite, and two bathroom-sharing (twin, double and family) bedrooms.
Carriage and Kiln House -

This is the part that continues to attract the budget traveller and has rated so highly in the guide books. The Railway Station was created by Brendan in 1996 using recycled materials to house a 150-year-old mahogany railway carriage, which he has totally rebuilt. It provides five unique bedrooms (two doubles, and three 4-bunk-bed, private rooms), all with WHB and central heating. The beds are hand-built from old railway sleepers, and are extremely solid and comfortable.

To the rear is a large and very warm, comfortable sitting room with an open turf fire, a dining room and kitchen decorated and equipped in a traditional style. It also has three showers and a utility room.

The Carriage is open all year!
