As you enter the impressive gateway of Springfield Castle, a plaque commemorates Daibhidh O’ Bruadair, a classical Irish poet of the seventeenth century who lived at the castle with the Fitzgerald family recording their exploits. He described Springfield as " a mansion abounding in poetry, prizes and people".
